If not Ilocanos are the Thriftiest, Who?  

Kuripot man ituring ang mga Ilocano
Ngunit ang pagtitipid nila'y educado
Upang mga pangarap maging guarantinsado
At ang Tagumpay nila'y wagas na Certificado
Para ang mga buhay nila'y masaya't asensado


(Literal English Translation)
Ilocanos are considered thriftiest
But their thriftiness is manage wisely
Intended for achieving guaranteed dreams
Leading to a fully certified success
As it brings a great and joyful life


Thriftiness doesn't matter of who's who would be the thriftiest citizen in any regions or countries. Tightfisted rooted from the hardships of individuals. Tightening of budget in anticipation of the future is a great advantage of thriftiness. Taking into account the popular filipino sayings “Kung may isinuksok, may madudukot ( If you stash away something, you'll have something to take out).” Nothing to be ashamed of being tightfisted because thriftiness is even a meritorious character of a person. 

We must live according to our own abilities. We should save and live simple if this  would be the limit of our income. Don’t emulate those that more affluent extravagantly spending anything.

Whether you are Ilocanos, Visayans, Bicolanos, Muslims, Koreans, Chinese, Americans, etc, it does not matter at all because savings is absolutely necessary for the sake of each individual’s future.


By the way, reading the article from Inquirer entitled “Ilocanos are no longer the thriftiest filipinos”, accordingly explained that the National Statistical Coordination Board (NSCB) released a statistical result showing that Ilocanos ranked sixth as the as the thriftiest people among the 17 regions of the Philippines.
