This Procedure is applicable to all electrical item installation activities at site, which are to be installed on the [PROJECT TITLE & LOCATION].To ensure that all electrical installation is carried out safely, and in accordance with good working practice, as per [PROJECT TITLE & LOCATION], job specifications. This procedure is intended to provide general application guidance and establish controls during preparation and installation.

Transformer Installation

1. Install transformer and accessories in accordance with the manufacturer instructions, plumb, and level.

2. Install / connect and test power & control cables and grounding cables as specified in paragraph 5.7 under cable pulling and cable testing, paragraph 5.2 for grounding.

3. All equipment items should be suitably identified with tags, nameplates, and stencils.

4. Check and confirm satisfactory completion of transformer installation.

5. Submit “Request For Inspection” to the QC section in accordance with “Inspection Test Plan”.

Pad Mounted and Oil Filled Power Transformer

6. Transformer should be installed on concrete pads / steel padding plates as depicted on IFC drawings. Verify pad sizes and clearances. Concrete pads should fully cured and ready to accept transformer.

7. Verify conduit stubs-up location.

8. Ensure that drain, sample valve, pressure relief valve, dial-type thermometer (with an externally adjustable maximum temperature indicator), liquid level gauge, NPR (for vacuum pressure gauge) are Qualitrol, or an approved equivalent.

9. The oil level (or other dielectric liquid) in the conservator corresponds to the level prescribed with regards to the oil temperature reading on the dial thermometer or as to the level prescribed with regards to the oil temperature reading on the dial thermometer or as per manufacturer requirements. If the level is too low, add new oil which has been treated.

10. Insulating oil should be laboratory tested.

11. Enclosure should be rain and dust-tight NEMA type 3. Undrilled glad plates are not acceptable. For transport prior to erection, conduit hubs should be sealed with treaded steel plugs.

12. Ensure that internal and external grounding are provided for grounding cables, and stress-relieving devices.

13. Testing should be conducted by the QC section.

Dry Type Transformer

14. Install transformer in accordance with manufacturer instructions.

15. Set transformer plumb and level.

16. Mount transformer on vibration isolation pads suitable for isolating transformer noise from the building structure.

17. Transformer sound level should not exceed the following:

  • 17.1    Up to 9 kVA         : 40 dB
  • 17.2    10 to 50 kVA        : 45 dB
  • 17.3    51 to 150 kVA     : 50 dB
  • 17.4   151 to 300 kVA    : 55 dB
  • 17.5   301 to 500 kVA    : 60 dB

          Where dB - decibel

18. Ensure that the manufacturer’s name plate includes the transformer connection data and overload capacity based on rated allowable temperature rise.

19. Testing should be conducted by the QC section.
